Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of fine sea salt (optional)

Toppings

  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 cups caramel bits
  • 12 ounces sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 7×11 inch baking dish with foil, and spray with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  2. Make the Crust: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and light brown sugar together using an electric hand mixer until smooth and creamy. Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour and optional sea salt until fully combined. Press this dough mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust layer.
  3. Bake the Crust: Bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until it turns lightly golden brown.
  4. Add Toppings: Remove the crust from the oven and evenly sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the baked crust. Then distribute the chopped pecans and caramel bits evenly on top.
  5. Pour Condensed Milk: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the entire surface, trying to cover as much of the toppings as possible to create a rich, gooey layer.
  6. Bake the Bars: Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan to firm up. For easier cutting, refrigerate overnight if desired. Once cooled, remove from the pan using the foil edges and cut into bars. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • These bars are addictively chewy and soft with chocolate as the predominant flavor.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips balance the sweetness, but you can use any variety or mix of chocolates you prefer.
  • You may alter toppings as long as the quantities remain proportionate.
  • Bars cut more cleanly when chilled; refrigerate overnight for best slicing results.
