  • 1 tbsp (15g) cornstarch

Vegetables & Cooking Oils

  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp (30g) vegetable oil (for cooking beef)
  • 1 tbsp (15g) vegetable oil (for cooking onions)
  • 2 tbsp (30g) vegetable oil (additional, for searing if needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Toss the beef strips in this marinade and let them sit for 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Cook the Onions: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become soft and slightly caramelized, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sear the Beef: In the same skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are browned but still tender.
  4. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (if using), 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch until smooth.
  5. Simmer the Beef with Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the beef in the skillet. Stir well and let it simmer on medium heat until the sauce thickens and coats the beef evenly, about 2-3 minutes.
