4.5 from 98 reviews

This delightful Puff Pastry Christmas Tree is a festive and easy-to-make dessert that features layers of flaky puff pastry filled with rich Nutella. Perfect for holiday celebrations, it’s beautifully shaped like a Christmas tree and dusted with a touch of icing sugar to add a snowy finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 2 puff pastry sheets (10 by 10 inches each)

Filling

  • 1/2 cup Nutella

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Finishing

  • Icing sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
  2. Melt Nutella: Gently melt the Nutella in a double boiler or microwave until spreadable and smooth.
  3. Layer Pastry Sheets: Spread the melted Nutella evenly over one puff pastry sheet. Carefully place the second puff pastry sheet on top and dust the top with flour to prevent sticking.
  4. Shape Dough: Cut the layered dough into a large triangle shape. Use star-shaped cookie cutters on leftover dough scraps to create decorations and set aside.
  5. Create Tree Shape: Form the Christmas tree by lifting and twisting sections of the dough to give a layered, branched effect.
  6. Apply Egg Wash: Beat the egg with water to make an egg wash. Brush it generously over the entire tree to promote golden, glossy baking.
  7. Bake: Place the tree onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Dust and Serve: Allow to cool slightly, then dust with icing sugar to mimic snow before serving.

Notes

  • For the flakiest pastry, allow the dough to rest properly before baking.
  • Feel free to customize the filling using jams, caramel, or other nut butters as preferred.
  • Using cold puff pastry will help maintain texture and ensure proper puffing during baking.
