For the Chicken Wings
- 2 pounds chicken wings
- 3 tablespoons potato starch
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
- oil spray
For the Honey Lemon Pepper Sauce
- ½ cup honey
- 1 lemon zested
- ¼ cup lemon juice, or more
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1–2 teaspoons ground pepper
- 1 pinch salt
- Preheat and prepare wings: Heat the oven to 450°F. Pat dry the chicken wings with paper towels if they are moist to ensure crispiness.
- Coat the wings: In a large bowl, add the potato starch, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to the chicken wings. Toss thoroughly to coat the wings evenly with the seasoning mix.
- Prepare baking sheet: Lightly spray oil onto a parchment-lined sheet pan. Arrange the coated chicken wings in a single layer on the pan. Spray the tops of the wings lightly with oil as well to promote browning.
- Bake the wings: Reduce the oven temperature to 425°F and bake the wings for 35 to 40 minutes depending on size. Flip the wings halfway through baking and spray a little more oil on top for extra crispiness.
- Make the honey lemon pepper sauce: While the wings bake, combine honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, minced garlic, butter, salt, and ground pepper in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir and simmer the sauce for 3 to 5 minutes until well combined and slightly thickened. Set aside a small portion of the sauce for dipping if desired.
- Toss wings in sauce: Once wings are cooked and crispy, transfer them to a large bowl and toss them thoroughly with the honey lemon pepper sauce to coat evenly.
- Serve: Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy your flavorful honey lemon pepper wings!
Notes
- Patting the wings dry before coating helps them crisp up better in the oven.
- Adjust lemon juice quantity in the sauce to your preferred level of tanginess.
- Using baking powder instead of baking soda helps achieve a crispy skin without altering flavor.
- For extra crispiness, consider broiling the wings for 2-3 minutes after baking, watching carefully to avoid burning.
- If you prefer less spicy wings, reduce the amount of ground pepper in the sauce.
