Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Layer

  • 3 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips, divided (1 1/2 cups and 2 cups)

Peanut Butter Filling

  • 1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter (such as JIF)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened

Topping

  • 1 cup Reese’s Pieces

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a 10 by 15 inch pan with wax paper to prevent sticking and make removal easy once set.
  2. First Chocolate Layer: Melt 1 1/2 cups of the milk chocolate chips until smooth. Spread this melted chocolate evenly over the wax paper in the pan, noting it may not reach all edges. Place the pan in the refrigerator to allow the chocolate layer to set firmly.
  3. Peanut Butter Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, and softened butter. To help achieve a smooth texture, microwave the mixture for 10 to 15 seconds if needed. Spread this peanut butter layer evenly over the set chocolate layer in the pan. Return the pan to the refrigerator to let the peanut butter filling firm up.
  4. Top Chocolate Layer and Toppings: Melt the remaining 2 cups of chocolate chips to a smooth consistency. Spread this layer over the peanut butter filling evenly. Immediately sprinkle 1 cup of Reese’s Pieces over the top while the chocolate is still soft to ensure they stick.
  5. Final Setting and Serving: Place the pan back in the refrigerator until the entire layered confection is fully set and firm. Once set, break into bite-sized pieces and store in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Use good quality milk chocolate for best flavor and melting results.
  • Make sure the peanut butter is creamy, not chunky, to ensure smooth texture.
  • Softened butter should be at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Microwaving the peanut butter mixture briefly helps blend the ingredients smoothly.
  • Refrigeration is key after each layer to properly set each stage before adding the next.
  • Store the peanut butter cups in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator depending on your climate.
  • You can substitute Reese’s Pieces with chopped peanuts or mini peanut butter cups for variation.
