Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour (133 g)
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, salted, room temperature (112 g)
  • 1 cup sugar (200 g)
  • 1 egg

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped apple pieces (100 g)
  • ½ cup toasted pecan pieces (53 g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃) to prepare for baking the apple brownies.
  2. Toast Pecans: In a small pan, toast the pecan pieces over medium heat until they become fragrant, about 3-5 minutes. Stir frequently to avoid burning. Set aside to cool.
  3. Prepare Apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into ½ inch chunks for even distribution and texture in the batter.
  4. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream the room temperature butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, which helps incorporate air for a tender crumb.
  5. Add Egg: Add the egg to the creamed mixture and mix thoroughly until fully combined and fluffy.
  6. Combine Dry Ingredients: Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon to the wet mixture. Mix gently just until combined to avoid overworking the batter.
  7. Fold in Apples & Pecans: Incorporate the chopped apples and toasted pecans into the batter, mixing well. The batter will be sticky and moist due to the apples.
  8. Transfer to Pan: Pour the batter into a buttered or parchment-lined 8×8 inch baking dish and press evenly.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean. Baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven; about 35 minutes is typical.
  10. Cool & Serve: Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before slicing into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with ice cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Use fresh, crisp apples for the best texture and flavor; Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well.
  • Make sure pecans are thoroughly cooled after toasting to prevent melting the butter when added.
  • Do not overmix the batter after adding flour to keep the brownies tender.
  • These brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
  • For a gluten-free alternative, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free baking blend.
